Supporting Deliberation with Post-Evaluation Analysis of Constrained Optimization Models

چکیده
Many real life optimization problems cannot be modeled adequately using linear programming. Other techniques such as integer programming and non-linear programming are typically used to solve these problems. However, these techniques provide limited view of the solution space and have serious limitations dealing with the stochastic nature of the constraints. This paper investigates the principles and techniques for providing a systematic, thoroughgoing support for post-evaluation analysis of constrained optimization models that are not (limited to) linear programming models. More specifically, the paper focuses on a challenging class of integer programming problems, the generalized assignment problem (GAP) and information gathered by genetic algorithms. After introducing the larger problem of post-evaluation analysis for constrained optimization models, we examine the performance of random search and two promising implementations of the genetic algorithm (Penalty GA and FI-2Pop GA) on a set of standard GAP test problems. While much work remains to be done to explore the full capabilities of these techniques, we demonstrate that useful information can be obtained through meta-heuristic search techniques and we conduct a systematic comparison of such techniques.

Trim and Maneuverability Analysis Using a New Constrained PSO Approach of a UAV
Performance characteristic of an Unmanned Air Vehicle (UAV) is investigated using a newly developed heuristic approach. Almost all flight phases of any air vehicle can be categorized into trim and maneuvering flights. In this paper, a new envelope called trim-ability envelope, is introduced and sketched within the conventional flight envelope for a small UAV. Optimal maneuverability of the inte...

This paper addresses a new version of the exible ow line prob- lem, i.e., the budget constrained one, in order to determine the required num- ber of processors at each station along with the selection of the most eco- nomical process routes for products. Since a number of parameters, such as due dates, the amount of available budgets and the cost of opting particular routes, are imprecise (fuzz...
متن کاملA Robust Knapsack Based Constrained Portfolio Optimization
Many portfolio optimization problems deal with allocation of assets which carry a relatively high market price. Therefore, it is necessary to determine the integer value of assets when we deal with portfolio optimization. In addition, one of the main concerns with most portfolio optimization is associated with the type of constraints considered in different models. In many cases, the resulted p...
متن کاملOn How Solution Populations Can Guide Revision of Model Parameters
Post-evaluation analysis of the model of a constrained optimization problem is conducted after obtaining preliminary optimal or heuristically good solutions. The primary goal of post-evaluation analysis is to reconsider assumptions made in the model in the light of information generated while finding the good solutions as well as information not previously detailed in the model. We seek extensi...
متن کاملSystems Risk Analysis UsingHierarchical Modeling
A fresh look at the system analysis helped us in finding a new way of calculating the risks associated with the system. The author found that, due to the shortcomings of RPN, more researches needed to be done in this area to use RPNs as a new source of information for system risk analysis. It is the purpose of this article to investigate the fundamental concepts of failure modes and effects ana...
